"A fellow will remember a lot of things you wouldn't think he'd remember. You take me. One day, back in 1896, I was crossing over to Jersey on the ferry, and as we pulled out, there was another ferry pulling in, and on it there was a girl waiting to get off. A white dress she had on. She was carrying a white parasol. I only saw her for one second. She didn't see me at all, but I'll bet a month hasn't gone by since that I haven't thought of that girl."- Mr. Bernstein, Citizen Kane

Best memory my sons ever had for an assembly.
The same weekend that we had our summer convention, just a few miles away was a Star Trek/Fantasy convention. My oldest really wanted to go, as a friend of his from school would also be there. So, I drove him there in the morning to spend the day. Then, since I felt guilty about it, I let his brother (who was dressed for the assembly) go as well when we got there. At lunch break, I brought him his regular clothes.
They got to see William Shatner and talk to a voice actor for various animated shows (including Clone Wars). The best Assembly Saturday THEY ever had! -

1985-The day of the convention that the "Creation" book was released.
Standing in line, waiting for my copy, I notice the VERY CUTE blonde girl making eye contact with me and smiling. I look away and look back, yeah, no mistake, she is definitely vamping me!
Annnnnnddd... just at that moment, my Dad, gives his signature whistle, gives the twirling finger signal that we are "heading out" and I look back to see the look of pouty disappointment on the young lady's face as we leave.
Looked for her the next day, never found her. (No, I did not steal this scene from "American Grafitti", but it does have its similarities...)
Every so often, that memory comes up. Who was she? Was she really interested, or just giving a random fat guy a hopeless thrill? And if she was interested in me, why? Oh, the road not taken, the gusto not gone for. Why did my 19 year old self HAVE TO ride with my folks that day? Why wasn't I more assertive? What might have been?
And that's the best memory I have ever had of an assembly. -

Dear Church, Here's Why People are Really Leaving You
by Captain Schmideo2 inso, without one ounce, one iota of self-reflection and irony, a witness i've known since childhood posted this on her facebook page:http://www.faithit.com/dear-church-heres-why-people-are-really-leaving-you/actual quotes from this article:"church, i know how much you despise the word tolerance, but right now, i really need you to tolerate me; to tolerate those of us who, for all sorts of reasons you may feel arent justified, are struggling to stay.
""if someone is frustrated, telling them that theyre wrong to be frustrated is, well, pretty freakin frustrating.it only breeds distance.. if someone shares that their heart is hurting, they dont want to hear that theyre not right to be hurt.. its a conversation-stopper.
"dear lord, do they actually read what they post?.

This whole "Light/Darkness" thing sound a lot like Zoroastrianism to me...
Oh, wait, wasn't Judea under Persian control for a while? Hmmmmm.... -

I don't want the Watchtower's version of paradise.
by StarTrekAngel ini am writing this in the hopes that it may help someone in a debate.
i personally have not had a chance to discuss it with anyone but that is true for most other topics.
i think is a good one to analyze.

The Pencil. One of the worlds simplest tools, but they couldn't make it in "Paradise". -

Anyone seen this new "Bad Association" video at the Convention yet?
by WingCommander ini read on another thread (on another forum) where someone mentioned a truly guilt-inducing, cringe-worthy, "bad association" video that was played at this summers rc's.
here is how that person described it:.
"the video about "bad association" was really weird.

What, they couldn't come up with one where everyone piles into a car, and get killed while running from the cops?
Oh, wait, that was done already in "A Bronx Tale". -

This is a clip from "The Adventures of Mark Twain". The idea of Paradise (or, Heaven) varies from person to person:

Back in 1988, the late Spaulding Gray did a one man show for HBO called "The Terrors of Pleasure".
In his monologue, he describes a visit from the JW's (complete with dramatization!). He gives a perfect "takedown" of the JW description of paradise.
Here is the clip, advanced to 25:10, where it starts:
